Farm update!

It’s been awhile. We have been doing so much and been very busy. Between homeschool, managing property and farming it’s a full day.

Gabe and I started a 90-Day challenge where we read the Bible in 90 days from cover to cover. In order to make time for that first we get up at 4am. So we are up before the sun and then bedtime is 830-930pm. Long day but full so it’s good. I will post more about the reading plan over on my literature page where people can ask questions or make comments.

In all the craziness we added a new animal to our farm. We have started to raise quail. The kids have loved this, especially since the quail are so little and cute. The big kids got to help clean out the temporary quail cage the other day and Gabe and I have been building there more permanent cage that we will do egg collecting and such with. We are excited and hope this goes well and we can continue with this new addition.

They got to wear big kid gloves while we did the yucky part and then helped fill feeders and watered the chicks!

We have also be working on the quail cage as well and recently finished putting it together. Below are some progress pictures!

We took a frame we had used for other birds and cut it down to be shorter then added the flooring so they will have airflow through the bottom but not ever be stuck on the ground. This will also help with keep the smell down from the birds as things will fall through to the ground.
We put in an automatic watering system which has worked well so far!

Quail grow so fast and eat and drink so much but they are thriving and almost ready to start laying! We are excited to do some incubating with some of the eggs.

One another note we have added a couple Longhorns to our animal inventory in addition to the quail! They are young but we are starting to raise them so we can have our own beef as well!

Lots going on, as always!

We have been working hard to get stuff set up for winter and prepping for next season and all that it will entail!
